You recently heard from me about President Obama’s proposed budget for America’s National Park System and how that proposal is a significant decrease from last year. Sadly, this decrease will reverse recent progress at reducing the parks’ operations shortfall and could result in a reduction of as many as 1,000 seasonal positions needed to serve the public, protect resources, and maintain facilities. We can’t let this happen.
It is now up to Congress to ensure that our national parks receive the funding they need to preserve our national heritage.
The Appropriations Committee in the House of Representatives is in the process of determining their priorities for the 2011 budget. As a part of this process, members of Congress are sending a bipartisan letter to the Appropriations Committee in support of funding for our national parks. A strong showing on this letter tells the committee that the American public cares about national parks and strengthens the case for increased funding.
Take Action: Urge your Representative to sign on to the Grijalva-Ehlers letter in support of funding for America’s National Park System. By signing this letter, your Representative will ensure that your voice is heard as Congress moves forward in the budget process.
It takes persistent activists just like you to make sure parks aren’t overlooked in the national budget process. Thank you for joining NPCA in our continued efforts to adequately fund America’s national parks for future generations.
Sincerely,

Thomas C. Kiernan President
